Both sites allow citizens to use digital and Web technologies—like uploading digital photos and linking them to maps—to report non-emergency problems like potholes, cracked sidewalks or uncollected trash.
Such sites can be set-up to direct the citizen reports to the appropriate local government department for follow-up, and the follow-up itself can be publicly tracked and updated.
A Web site like this could do two really positive things simultaneously: 1) it would give citizens an easy, public way to report problems or suggest improvements; and 2), it would give local government a visible way to demonstrate both its responsiveness to citizens and its daily efforts to keep local infrastructure in good repair.
