Nextstop.com is a Web site that makes it easy to create quick, illustrated online travel guides. As of this writing, only two guides to Athens, Ga. have been created—and that seems a shame for two reasons.
First, as I’ve said it’s really easy. You go to the site, type in the name of a place, and the site finds the address and gathers a bunch of photos of that place. You pick a photo, and add a quick caption saying what the place is and why you like it. You do that for a handful of places and—presto!—you’ve created an illustrated online travel guide.
Second, I really want to see more guides about Athens. I’d like to see a variety of restaurant guides, including one that points to several good sandwich places and one that highlights a handful of the better Mexican/South American restaurants in town. A guide or two to the taverns would also come in handy, as would some suggestions about how and where to entertain visiting nieces and nephews.
Right now there’s only my guide—Athens, Ga.: A New Arrival’s Discoveries—and the guide Exploring Athens by somebody who calls herself brittab. Brittab’s is good but has only my clichéd guide as a companion.(“I hope to God you didn’t put in The Tree that Owns Itself,” my wife said. I did.) Athens deserves more.
